Deadline Extended: Nominate a Grad Student or Postdoc for the Dean’s Mentoring Award

Dear UCSF Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Scholars, Faculty, Staff, and Colleagues,

The Graduate Division/Office for Postdoctoral Scholars is extending nominations for the Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Mentoring for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars until April 6, 2020. As we look for the helpers in these unsettling times, we recognize that many of our graduate students and postdoctoral scholars ARE those helpers. This extension to the submission period for nominations reflects our on-going commitment to promoting a culture of mentorship at UCSF, and to recognizing the diversity of peer support and leadership among our graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who contribute to that culture.

No other changes have been made to the awarding process. Any UCSF affiliate – staff, faculty, student, postdoc, etc. – may submit a nomination online. The award is open to currently enrolled graduate students (both master’s and PhD) and postdoctoral scholars who have formally or informally taken on some of the responsibilities typically held by traditional mentors, supervisors, and sponsors in the areas of research mentoring, career and professional mentoring, and social and inspirational mentoring. After the nominations have been reviewed by a committee, three graduate students and three postdoctoral scholars will each be presented with a $500 award and publicly recognized.

Questions about the award can be directed to [email protected].

Best wishes,

Elizabeth Watkins, PhD
