Volunteer Opportunity for UCSF Postdocs in March - Great time to give back!

Dear UCSF Postdocs:
I'm delighted to announce the 4th annual Biotech Week in the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD)! We are looking for volunteers to speak to high school students about their career journeys, their organizations, their jobs and share educational advice. This is a fun and rewarding way to help inspire the next generation of science leaders.

During Biotech Week, high school science students:

  • engage in hands-on biotech lab activities that involve bacterial transformation and polymerase chain reactions, including practice using a micropipette;
  • learn about community college biotech programs that they can enroll in while in high school; and
  • meet people who work in the life science/biotech industry and discover the diversity in science careers.
Since our pilot year three years ago, over 1000 high school students have participated in Biotech Week. As a result, some students have elected to pursue biotech or health science pathways at their respective high schools, beginning their journey towards a science-related career.
