Nominate a Graduate Student or Postdoc for the new Dean’s Excellence in Mentoring Award

Now accepting nominations for the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring for Graduate Students and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring for Postdoctoral Scholars. The Graduate Division and the Office for Postdoctoral Scholars have developed these new awards in conjunction with graduate students and postdoctoral scholars as part of our continuing effort to promote a culture of mentorship at UCSF, and to recognize the diversity of peer support and leadership among our graduate students and postdoctoral scholars that contributes to that culture.

The awards are open to current UCSF graduate students (both master’s and PhD) and postdoctoral scholars who have formally or informally taken on some of the responsibilities typically held by traditional mentors, supervisors, and sponsors in the areas of research mentoring, career and professional mentoring, and social and inspirational mentoring.Nominations from current UCSF staff, faculty, students, and postdoctoral scholars may be submitted online through March 31, 2019.

A review committee will select three graduate students and three postdoctoral scholars who will each receive a $500 stipend and an award certificate. I will present these to the awardees at a special recognition ceremony in May 2019.

These awards are examples of the Graduate Division’s and the Office for Postdoctoral Scholars’ efforts to support a mentoring culture that encourages diversity and increases equity in the biomedical, social, and population sciences.
