Please join host Hani Goodarzi in welcoming the FIRST Zoom Biochem Basic Science Seminar special guest speaker of the series, Dr. Joshua Mendell,  Professor of Molecular Biology Department and HHMI Investigator at UT Southwestern Medical Center, for his talk titled: "How do noncoding RNAs regulate other RNAs and RNA binding proteins?" via Zoom on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 12pm.

Abstract:
Noncoding RNAs have emerged as important regulators of diverse biological processes. Our laboratory applies biochemical and genetic approaches, coupled with high-throughput screening, to interrogate the functions of multiple classes of noncoding RNAs, including microRNAs and long noncoding RNAs. I will present our latest findings regarding the regulation and function of these transcripts, emphasizing newly-discovered mechanisms through which noncoding RNAs regulate the activity of other RNAs and RNA binding proteins, and highlighting the phenotypic consequences of these regulatory interactions in mammals.

The Mendell laboratory investigates fundamental aspects of post-transcriptional gene regulation, noncoding RNA regulation and function, and the roles of these pathways in normal physiology, cancer, and other diseases. In addition, they employ high-throughput screening approaches to interrogate diverse problems in RNA and cancer biology.
